Pure Nature

  • Norway’s unique nature creates the perfect environment for responsible and sustainable aquaculture practice. Deep and vast fjords with steep-sided rock walls from rugged mountains and numerous waterfalls and free-flowing rivers from glaciers and lakes, creates the ideal environment for growing healthy salmon and trout.

  • All Pure Red Salmon Trout farms from Hofseth are perfectly located on the west coast of Norway, in the scenic fjord called Storfjorden (the Great Fjord). Storfjorden branches off into several smaller fjords, including the famous Geirangerfjord, which is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, due to its exceptional natural beauty and dramatic landscapes.

Pure Water

  • Storfjorden is surrounded by steep mountains up to 2000 meters and the deepest point of the fjord is 679 metres. Storfjorden is recognized as one of the best farming fjords for salmon trout in Norway due to its large water depth, good circulation and massive freshwater access from surrounding mountain, waterfalls, and glaciers.

  • Hofseth is the only one farmer operating in the Storfjorden, which allows complete biological control in the fjord and reduces the risk of polluting the environment and water.

  • Good access to fresh mountain water from melted snow and ice prevents sealice from thriving. Sealice avoids fresh water, and Storfjorden is filled with fresh snowmelt from surrounding mountains during spring and summer.

  • The Gulf stream creates strong currents that flows through the fjord and circulates the water. Storfjorden has no tresholds reducing the water inflow into the fjord, its is a natural flow-through system.

  • Storfjorden has ideal water temperaturs for optimal trout farming with cool summers (< 16°C) and mild winters (> 5 °C).

Pure Farming

  • The “pioneer fish” farmed in Norway was rainbow trout, and the experiences gained, laid the foundation of the modern aquaculture industry, which is one of the most important industries in Norway today. From the beginning in the 1970s, the industry has evolved to a large-scale high-tech industry of today. (The operations are under supervision of the Norwegian Directorate of Fisheries and the Norwegian Food Safety Authority and follows the strictest regulations of salmonid farming in the world).

  • All Pure Red Salmon Trout sites are ASC certified, meaning they follow a set of standards for responsible aquaculture in order to minimize the environmental and social impacts of the farming activities, such as:

    • Protecting the wild salmon: The wild salmon, ancestor of the Atlantic Salmon, lives in the rivers surrounding our fjord and we are taking every measure to preserve the population.

    • No antibiotics: Unlike many other farming countries, farmers in Norway does not use antibiotics due to clean fjords and extensive preventive measures.

    • Zero Emissions: Hofseth Aqua’s goal is to produce fish in a carbon-neutral way and are now transforming the facilities to use land-based electricity and hydrogen.

    • Custom Feed: Hofseth Aqua have a close cooperation with world-leading feed provider Cargill, and the raw material have strict specifications regarding origin and nutritional content

    • Animal welfare: Hofseth Aqua have continuously monitoring of the fish and the environment, ensuring low levels of disease and lice, and reducing stressful handling down to a minimum.

    • Safe working conditions: The safety of the workers is of utmost importance, and we have strict HMS regulations ensuring the health and wellbeing of our employees.

Pure Fish

  • Feed and nutrition are one of the most important factors in the production of salmonoids, because it affects growth, health, behaviour, product quality, economy, productivity and environment. Understanding the important attributes and how they influence our trout is therefore a key element in providing top quality and why we have chosen to feed our Pure Red trout with special feed in collaboration with Cargill.

  • High content of marine omega-3 fatty acids (12 %*) provides good fish health and welfare also at the low temperature which occurs when the ice-cold mountain water drains into the fjord where the “Pure Red” salmon trout is produced. * standard marine omega-3 content is 6%.

  • High antioxidant capacity in the feed, both secures sound basis for the fish physiology and protects the characteristic and valuable red pigments from being oxidised either prior to or after harvest.

  • Using algae oils which are produced without risk of pollution

  • Using fish oils cleaned for contaminants

  • Fat content 14-22g per 100g
